Your guide will explain the chronology of its construction, including details of what has yet to be built. Next, cross the grid-like L’Eixample of the 19th century to reach the historic city center, first settled by the Romans about 2,000 years ago. Wander the labyrinth of narrow streets, admring the Gothic architecture of the cathedral and other religious and civic monuments.
On the other side of the Barrio Gotico, you will come to Las Ramblas, Barcelona’s most famous street. Admire the ornate Liceu Opera House, and walk down to the monument to Christopher Columbus in the old port, radically transformed for the 1992 Olympic Games.
