Travel back in time and discover the origins of historic Cardona, famous for its medieval fortress, and the ancient salt mines and mountains of the Muntanya de Sal. See the collegiate Church of Sant Vicenç, and the hilltop Cardona Castle.
The hill has been worked like a mine since Roman times, with pieces cut out and carved by artists into crucifixes, images, and ornamental articles. Upon arrival, you will go to the Castle of Cardona, considered by many to be the most impressive fortress in Catalonia.
Visit the 11th-century Torre de la Minyona (Minyone Tower) and the neighboring collegiate Church of Sant Vicenç, a jewel of Catalan-Lombard Romanesque architecture that was once covered in murals.
Learn how Cardona was once one of the most important potassium salt mines in the world, when it was known as the Mina Nieves de Cardona. Now home to the Salt Mountain Cultural Park, the cultural facility provides a wealth of information on the importance of salt and the geology of the area, as well as offering stunning views of the saline outcrops.
