Overview:
Discover some of the most important villages of the Costa Brava on a half-day tour from Barcelona. Visit the large tourist resort of Lloret de Mar and the charming village of Tossa de Mar, considered the “Pearl of the Costa Brava.”
Description:
This half-day tour from Barcelona explores the Girona coast, christened as the Costa Brava 100 years ago, due to its rugged coastline of small coves, pine forests, and crystal clear water.
Its superb natural beauty is apparent in several territories and protected areas, such as Cap de Creus, the Emporda Marshes, and the Marine Reserve of the Medes islands. The area has also historically been a point of entry and settlement for different civilizations. Each has left a footprint, evidenced by the Greek and Roman sites in Èmpuries.
On this half-day tour you will explore the southern part of the Costa Brava, visiting 2 villages that represent the very essence of the coast. Depart from Plaça Catalunya in central Barcelona at 08:30 for the drive to Lloret de Mar, the main tourist village of the Costa Brava.
Upon arrival, you will find yourself immersed in the hustle and bustle, with about 90 minutes to explore. Stroll along the promenade for great views of the beaches, from the majestic Lloret Beach to the hidden Sa Caleta. Walk through the narrow streets, which retain an ambiance of Lloret’s maritime past. Explore the Modernism architecture of the church of St. Roma.
Next, climb on board the Dofijets, and sail to the neighboring village of Tossa de Mar. Gaze at the characteristic landscape as you cruise, a procession of huge cliffs that have been shaped by the sea and wind into fanciful forms over centuries.
Arrive at Tossa de Mar and explore its beaches, caves, and Roman remains at the Villa Romana dels Ametllers, one of the most important villas in the ancient Roman province of Tarraco.
Explore the Old Town of Tossa, listed as an artistic-historic monument since 1931, and one of the few remaining fortified medieval towns on the Catalan coast. Discover traditional and atmospheric fishing neighborhoods, such as Sa Roqueta.
Enjoy some free time for lunch in Tossa, with some of the best gastronomic offerings along the Costa Brava. Afterwards, there will be time to wander around the attractive shops on Tossa’s charming streets. At 15:00 you will head back to Barcelona, for a drop-off at Plaça Catalunya at around 16:30.
