Overview:
Discover Girona and Besalú on this private full-day tour from Barcelona. Explore the Baroque cathedral, the colorful houses, and the picturesque old town. Learn more about the history of the 2 beautiful towns.
Description:
Due to the strategically important position, Girona was conquered many times and has therefore been influenced by different cultures for 2,000 years. Romans, Jews, and French have all left their unmistakable mark on the city. Explore the compact old town with buildings from various eras and the maze of winding streets in the Jewish ghetto. See the ritual bathhouse, the Baroque cathedral, and the best views at Río Onyar, where you can admire the landmark of the city – the colorful houses along the river.
In the afternoon you will drive 30 minutes in the direction of the foothills of the Pyrenees to Besalú. With 2,000 inhabitants, the town may be smaller but no less worth seeing. Be enchanted by the medieval town high above the Fluvià River. See the stone arch bridge from the 14th century and stroll through the streets of the old town. You will then drive back to Barcelona in the early evening.
